Biography
Linda C. Degutis, DrPH, MSN, is a Lecturer at the Yale School of Public Health, and consultant on public health, as well as injury and violence prevention. She works with the Rocky Mountain Mental Illness Research Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC) for Suicide Prevention on research initiatives that focus on the prevention of suicide in U.S. veterans. Much of her current work is focused on gun violence prevention, in activities associated with the American Public Health Association (APHA), as a member of the Association of Schools and Programs in Public Health (ASPPH) task force on gun violence prevention, representing APHA on the American Academy of Pediatrics Advisory group on gun violence prevention, and with Amnesty International’s state level initiative in Connecticut. Her book, Gun Violence Prevention: A Public Health Approach was published by APHA last year. She also serves on the National Advisory Committee of Systems for Action, a program funded by RWJF and based at the University of Colorado School of Public Health. She chairs the Advisory Council of the College of Health Sciences at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois, and initiated an annual lecture series there that is focused on women in science. She chairs the Board of Directors of the Stop Abuse Campaign, which is focused on preventing adverse childhood experiences and their consequences. Dr. Degutis is a member of the National Academy of Medicine. In her spare time, she continues to focus on West Coast Swing dance, silversmithing, cooking, marine conservation and travel. Dr. Degutis received her bachelor’s degree from DePaul University, her MSN, and DrPH from Yale University. She currently resides in Decatur, Georgia.
